Safety Town

Open to children entering Kindergarten this fall. Safety Town offers hands-on, age-appropriate lessons focused on pedestrian and bike safety, playground and school safety, and important everyday routines that help children feel confident and prepared.

The program will be held at Packanack Elementary School, 190 Oakwood Dr, Wayne, NJ, with four one-week sessions scheduled in July. Families can choose between the weeks of July 13–17 or July 20–24, with two daily time options available: 9:00–11:00 a.m. or 11:45 a.m.–1:45 p.m.

Throughout the week, students will be guided by experienced Wayne school teachers who encourage participation through fun activities, role-playing, and interactive lessons. In addition, children will meet community helpers through daily guest presentations, including police officers, firefighters, EMTs, lifeguards and swim instructors, school transportation staff, NJ Transit representatives, and a therapy dog team.

Participants will learn about stranger awareness, pedestrian and bicycle safety, water safety, fire safety, health and hygiene, and how to stay safe both in school and at home.

Although the program is not mandatory, Safety Town has long been considered a staple in Wayne, New Jersey, helping generations of children build confidence and develop important safety habits before starting kindergarten.

The cost is $60 per child.
